"Kazbar and their whole team have put together a wonderful studio. It’s incredibly flexible whether it be for tracking, mixing or working to picture in all of the rooms at once or independently. Not only that it has a wonderful sound and their care, precision and unrivalled advice is reflected in every aspect."
Nick Lloyd Webber, Drury Lane

The brief was clear – 4 rooms that could be interconnected to work as 1 control room and 3 live rooms or work as two independent control/live combinations.

Acoustically there were many challenges. The studio complex was immediately below office accommodation and residences. There was a large smoke duct that ran right through the space from a domestic stairwell to an external lightwell. The office couldn’t be distracted by the studio, and both ends of the smoke duct needed to be effectively silent. In addition, the independent operation of two control/live room set ups, required very good isolation. Specifications were issued, and the design and subsequent construction was well within the required performance.

The flush mounted Genelec 1038s in the main control room create super solid imaging with a deep and wide soundfield.

There were many practical challenges; the basement was beneath office and domestic accommodation with a large smoke duct that fed from a domestic area. The site was in a basement on Drury Lane and presented some challenges.
